There is an abundance of essential oils with proven antifungal qualities, one of the most common is tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia). Tea tree oil has got very strong antiseptic and antifungal properties. Studies show that it can be used to treat and prevent vaginal yeast infections as well as BV.

A study carried out on mice shows that tea tree oil is effective against both fluconazole susceptible and fluconazole-resistant Candida species.

Tea Tree Suppositories by Tea Tree Therapy are an all-natural remedy that can help you treat vaginal yeast infection as well as BV. Store them in a cool place, usually in the freezer, as they can easily melt, so they are easier to remove from the package and insert. If your symptoms don’t improve after seven days, make sure you go to see your doctor.

As tea tree oil is a very strong antiseptic, apart from yeast it can also kill the friendly bacteria in your vagina, so it’s best to use probiotic ovules for at least one week straight after finishing your tea tree suppository treatment to balance your vaginal flora and avoid vaginal yeast infections in future.

Directions: Insert one tea tree oil vaginal suppository daily for six consecutive days into your vagina. They will slowly melt overnight, so make sure you wear a pad.

The producer recommends inserting Tea Three Therapy vaginal suppositories at night and in the morning. But I don’t recommend it because when you walk, they can easily leak out.

It’s safe to use the suppositories for up to 28 days in severe cases. The tea tree vaginal suppositories shouldn’t produce any side effects, apart from an allergic reaction, but in case of bleeding contact your doctor immediately.

Cons:

  • It may give a slight burning sensation for the first 30 minutes. If the burning persists or gets worse it could mean you’re allergic to tea tree oil and you shouldn’t use the suppositories anymore.

  • The suppositories don’t come with an applicator, but they can be easily inserted with a finger.

  • They can be a bit expensive.

Verdict:

Tea Tree Therapy suppositories can be very effective when treating vaginal yeast infections or BV, as long as you’re not allergic to tea tree oil. Tea tree oil, along with other essential oils (such as lavender oil) has been clinically shown to kill Candida and harmful bacteria.

It’s worth to use this all-natural treatment, not only in cases of mild vaginal yeast infection but also against more stubborn Candida species that provoke recurrent yeast infections or are resistant to fluconazole. Tea tree vaginal suppositories will also help you maintain vaginal hygiene thanks to its smell and ability to kill bacteria that cause feminine odor.

  • Can you use these while on your period???

    • Hi Ari, you can use vaginal suppositories while on your period, just make sure you don’t use tampons at the same time. During your period it’s easier for the suppository to leak out, so use it only before going to bed. Good luck!

    • Hi Ari, you can use vaginal suppositories while on your period but their effect may be weaker because they can leak out pretty fast.

  • believe what it says about the first 30 minutes burning!! i wanted to take it out but it had already dissolved. just a warning for the more sensitive types. but it has subsided.

  • Thank you for your good advice and suggestions (and more) that are involved.

Many if the things you talk about I’d heard from my great-grandmother, who lived past 100. I thought it had all disappeared when she passed.

    • Hi Khodani, if you want to follow natural treatment you can try to use tea tree oil (you can buy it in a pharmacy or a health store) and coconut oil mixture (one spoon of coconut oil and 3 drops of tea three oil) and insert it in your vagina overnight for up to 7 days. If it doesn’t help, it’s best to see your doctor. All the best!
